French travellers have experienced a slight decrease in average airport parking costs in 2024, with the overall price dropping to 67.06 €, a small dip compared to 2023. However, this reduction conceals a notable 10.8% increase in the average daily parking rate, which reached 8.38 € this year. This uptick can be attributed to degressive pricing structures, as French travellers parked for fewer days on average—8 days in 2024 compared to 9 days the previous year.

Looking at booking patterns, French customers were more proactive in 2024, reserving parking spots an average of 21 days in advance. While valet services have gained popularity, rising from 16.5% of bookings in 2023, shuttle services remain the preferred choice, accounting for nearly 75% of parking bookings. Park & Walk options, however, hold a small share of just 2.22%, largely due to the fact that these services are often operated by airports themselves, while Parkivé focuses primarily on private airport parking lots.

Geneva: The Most Expensive Destination for Parking

Geneva stands out as the most expensive airport for French travellers, with a daily average of 16.26 €, marking a 9.2% price hike from 2023. Two factors likely explain this price jump: a reduction in the average duration of stays—from 9 to 7 days—and a later average booking time, which decreased from 24 days in advance to 17. Additionally, a significant number of travellers are choosing early morning hours to park, with 67% arriving between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Beauvais: A Sharp Price Increase

Beauvais saw the largest increase in parking fees within the sample, with daily costs rising 70.25% to 10.76 € in 2024. This surge can be attributed to a higher share of Park & Walk and valet services, both typically more expensive, and a lack of private parking offers during the first half of the year. Most travellers prefer to park between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m., with over 67% arriving in this window.

Orly: A Drop Amid Competition

At Orly, parking fees decreased by 18% to an average of 8.74 € per day. This price reduction is largely due to increased competition from private valet providers, which has led to lower prices across the board. The busiest times at Orly are between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m., with 63% of travellers arriving during these hours.

Other Airports in Focus

  • Brussels Airport: Parking here became 18.7% cheaper in 2024, with daily rates averaging 8.60 €. This drop can be attributed to the growing presence of low-cost shuttle parking providers. Early risers will find that 43.9% of travellers park between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Marseille Provence Airport: A slight 8.8% drop in prices to 8.47 € per day, mainly due to a higher share of shuttle services, which are more affordable than valet services. Peak hours for parking are from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Nantes Airport: Parking rates increased by 22.4%, reaching 8.13 € per day. This surge is attributed to the popularity of Park & Walk services, which, while more expensive, took a 12.3% market share. Travellers planning to park at Nantes are most likely to arrive between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Bordeaux Airport: With a 23.5% drop to 7.91 € per day, Bordeaux offers more affordable options, likely due to an increase in shuttle service bookings. The busiest parking times are between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Toulouse Airport: Parking rates remained relatively stable at 6.71 €, dropping 5.4% from 2023. The busiest time for arrivals is between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • Roissy Charles de Gaulle: Despite a 17.9% price increase to 6.65 €, Roissy remains one of the most affordable major airports for parking. The rise is due to growing demand for valet services. The airport sees heavy parking traffic throughout the day, with a peak between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Lyon Saint-Exupéry: At 5.66 € per day, Lyon remains the cheapest airport parking in the sample, although prices fluctuate depending on the month, ranging from 4.98 € in November to 8.02 € in May.

While prices are fluctuating across European airports, it’s clear that planning ahead can result in significant savings. Travellers should aim to book parking as early as possible and consider the peak hours to avoid crowds. As evidenced by our findings, when you book can influence the price you will pay. November to February tend to be the cheapest months to book your airport parking. From March up to June, average prices per day tend to increase substantially.
